Growing City Totem

Growing City Totem

by Mark Thomason

I drew images of Western life in an old color theory book for about a year. There are two main themes to the work: bleak landscapes and animals. I hand cut a stencil for the images to be repeated and varied.

The two major art influences for this body of work are Retablos and Ledger Art.

I mounted the drawings to reclaimed wood and use a clear acrylic coat for finishing. Recently, I decide to go back into the work with oil pastels, adding a layer of Southwest themed patterns and colors.

The goal of this body of work is to a have luminosity.
